Helen has played piano since the age of six, and at seventeen she won a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. A gifted pianist, singer, composer and lyricist, Helen first explored improvisation through her love of jazz. She has played solo at world renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, and her jazz piano suite ‘Birds of Paradise and Prey’ has been choreographed for Dance Advance at the Royal Ballet.
Helen’s family is from Cork in Southern Ireland. She grew up in London and studied classical piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
She is a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist and musical director in the world of music and theatre.
Helen has played solo at world renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, singing and playing standards and her own material.
Her jazz piano suite ‘ Birds of Paradise and Prey’ was choreographed for Dance Advance at the Royal Ballet (UK). She formed the world music band Luminus which blended Celtic/African/Jazz influences. As a singer songwriter she has performed at festivals in the UK and abroad. Her solo piano
playing has been described as a ‘female Keith Jarrett’, and her free form singing as ‘ the voice of mother earth’.
Helen’s theatre work includes composing the music for ‘Gaslight’ at Derby Playhouse, ‘Carrington’, - Chichester Festival Theatre, the award winning ‘From the Mississippi Delta’ – Young Vic and various productions at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art ( RADA).
She has also composed an acclaimed opera for young people of the classic book ‘The Secret Garden’.
TV work includes soundtracks and the theme music for the BBC documentary series ‘Edge of Life’.
